Springfield is the capital of the US state of Illinois and is the sixth most populous city. As per the 2010 census, the city had a population of 116250 making it the second most populous city outside the Chicago metropolitan area. According to estimates carried out in 2018, the city had reduced its population by 2446 residents. Interstate 55 runs through Springfield connecting the north and south while Interstate 72 which runs concurrently to the US Route 36 connects Missouri and Decatur.
