Long Haul Shipping of a 1962 International Harvester Pizza Truck

AutoTransport.com’s antique vehicle shipping specialist Stephen Ladd received this order from a customer who had performed an instant online quote on heavyhaulers.com. The 1962 International Harvester Pizza Truck client had liked our shipping estimates and after reading through customer reviews and testimonials, had placed the call to our AutoTransport.com representatives.

Stephen Ladd was at hand to perform an onsite valuation, and having done this countless times before; made the determination to ship the International Harvester Pizza Truck on a regular flatbed trailer.

Expert handlers were selected by Stephen to load and secure the restored vehicle, which weighed 3,000 pounds and had a width of 7.5 ft. and a height of 7.6 ft. Loaders who had the experience of moving International Harvester trucks carefully drove the operational 19 ft. long pizza truck onto the flatbed using loading ramps, and secured it with chain tie-downs.

The long distance haul from South Carolina to California also required that Stephen Ladd delegated the load to tandem driver teams for the over 50-hour drive, a 2,754-mile journey. From Mt. Pleasant, SC to Pleasanton, CA, the 1962 International Harvester Pizza truckload drove through the states of Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas and Oklahoma in the US, Midwest, before cutting through Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona.

Truck Transport
From Coast to Coast

Most of the transport route featured driving on the I-40 West, going through areas of poor weather and obstructive highway conditions. A detour near the state borders of Mississippi and Arkansas that Stephen arranged for enabled the transport to save time by exiting onto I-55 S to avoid following the I-40 to Memphis, Tennessee.

All the while, the client was kept completely in the know concerning the status of the International Harvester Pizza truck, with communication from Stephen Ladd to arrange for the drop-off. By the time the transport reached Bakersfield, CA they still had 7 hours and 25 minutes to spare and 3 hours later a successful offload was performed at the client’s doorstep. Offloading was made easy by an existing docking station at the client’s warehouse, and the entire process was completed before any fees were paid.
